Comment: Ancus Marcius was the legendary fourth king of Roma, grandson of Numa Pompilius, who reigned from approximately 640 to 616 BC. during the monarchical period. His figure combined military expansion with religious piety: he founded the port of Ostia, built the first bridge over the Tiber (Pons Sublicius) and fortified the Janiculum, thus consolidating Roman power in Latium. He is also credited with creating religious institutions and codifying laws. On the coin of Lucius Marcius Philip (56 BC), his bust with diadem and lituo evokes the royal and sacred origin of the Marcia gens, heir to his name and his legacy as builder and pacifier of Roma.
