Marcus Antonius
Marcus Antonius
Gens: Antonia
Moneyer: Marcus Antonius
Date and mint: 37 BC - ?
Obverse: Bust of Mark Antony, right. Dotted border.
Legend: M ANT AVGVR III VIR R P C
Reverse: Trophy with curved sword and shield in the shape of an eight, with another sword hanging from the waist; At the base of the trophy, two round shields and two spears. Dotted border.
Legend: IMP TER
Comment: This variety is a combination of die types 536/1 (obverse) and 536/3 (reverse). Crawford lists 30 known obverse and 33 reverse dies, but this evidently refers to the entire 536 variety, and especially to the first variant. In truth, 536/2 is unique (it is in the Münzkabinet in Vienna). *Damián Salgado, Numischannel.
