Comment: This denarius is minted by Casca Longus, who belonged to the Servilian gens and should appear that way. There are two brothers who are known to have been the authors of this denarius, both conspired against Caesar and one of them took an active part in his murder, they were the brothers Publius and Caius. The first, who as we have said was one of those who assassinated Caesar, died shortly after in the battle of Philippi. One of these brothers was governor under Brutus in the province of Asia. The meaning of the reverse must refer to the end of the power of Julius Caesar or his defenders. On this coin, minted after the Thracian War, we see for the first time Brutus's title of Imperator.
