Marcus Antonius
Marcus Antonius
Gens: Antonia
Moneyer: Marcus Antonius
Date and mint: 42 BC - ?
Obverse: Bust of Mark Antony, right, with beard. Dotted border.
Legend: M ANTONI IMP
Reverse: Distylo Temple; inside, medallion with radiant bust of the Sun, facing, draped. Dotted border.

Comment: Among the theories about the meaning of the reverse, the most plausible is that Mark Antony reminds us of his campaigns in Greece against Brutus and Cassius. Another version sees in the temple of the Sun a representation of a temple built for this deity and which was located near the Circus Maximus.
