Comment: Marcus Aemilius Scaurus issues this denarius representing the moment in which he subjugated the king of Nabatea under the power of the Roman republic (62 BC). The camel, an exotic animal that few would know in ancient Roma, is the first of the two times it appears on a republican denarius. Aretas, kneeling with an olive branch in his right hand symbolizes peace, or submission...
On the reverse, Jupiter driving a chariot with his left hand and launching lightning with his right hand left no room for doubt about the power of the emitter.
