All images have been taken from international auctions. Permission has been requested and the provenance, year and hammer price are always cited. Some pieces were not found in auctions and were searched for in museums; in those cases no price is shown.
We have looked for the best coins for each reference, so prices are usually among the highest. Lower-grade examples would be considerably cheaper. See our article on THE PRICE OF A DENARIUS.
